Myofascial Bio Rejuvenation (MBR), also known as the HowardMethod℠, works with your fascia—the continuous web of connective tissue that wraps every muscle, nerve, and joint in your body. Rather than pressing deeper into tight spots, MBR uses gentle decompression to lift and separate stuck layers of tissue, creating more space and glide throughout your system.
What this means for your body:
For over 35 years, Howard Mermelstein has helped people feel and move better through skilled, compassionate bodywork. His approach integrates deep tissue massage and myofascial release with his own specialized method, Myofascial Bio Rejuvenation (MBR)—a technique designed to take bodywork to a deeper, more restorative level.
Howard developed MBR to address not just typical aches and pains, but the underlying fascial restrictions that contribute to chronic discomfort, limited mobility, and soft-tissue injuries. The method is used by elite athletes to enhance performance and recovery, by dancers and musicians to move more efficiently, and by people with physical challenges to reduce strain and restore function. Each session is tailored to the individual, focusing on releasing restrictions, improving alignment, and enhancing body awareness.
Throughout his career, Howard has worked with a diverse clientele—from professional athletes and medical professionals to individuals seeking relief from stress, pain, and injury. He has taught medical massage at the Swedish Institute and other schools, and has been an NCBTMB-approved provider of continuing education since 2008. His commitment to teaching keeps his practice evolving and ensures clients benefit from the most current, effective techniques.
Howard now shares MBR with therapists internationally through workshops and continuing education courses. In 2023, he brought the technique to Copenhagen, expanding its reach across Europe.

With over three decades of experience in Western, Shiatsu, medical, and sports massage, Tom has a deep understanding of the human body; however, it was not until he learned and employed HowardMethod℠ that his private practice, Zen Massage Center, was voted Best Massage in Bergen County (2023). After witnessing how MBR dramatically improved the health of his clients and his business, Tom wanted to share his learnings and teach alongside Howard.
Tom graduated with honors from the Helma Institute of Massage Therapy and the Ohashi Institute and has been an Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) member since 1999.
